CD Reviews

This CD is the definitive collection of the real Sisters of

"A little lesson in history: there are actually three different bands called the Sisters of Mercy, the only thing unifying them is a man named Andrew Eldritch.

This collection is perhaps the only digital document of the original, first Sisters of Mercy, a band that released a string of singles and EPs between 1980 and 1983, toured extensively (mostly in England and Germany) and built a reputation as one of the more rugged exemplars of an emerging post-punk sound that in hindsight people have chosen for better or worse to call goth. These were the songs we used to browse the 12 inch single bins of underground and indie record stores to find. There were also a lot of bootleg concert recordings floating around, most of which are languishing, gathering dust in people's old cassette tape collections... perhaps someday one of those bootlegs will see digital.

But for the curious, let it be clear: when you hear about Sisters of Mercy as one of the original early 80s post punk pioneers of the new, dark music... this is the band and these are the songs they are referring to, those long play releases starting in 1985."

"If you have a problem with hollow, cold, echoing, droning, meth-soaked songs don't buy this CD. If you think every rock song needs a live drummer don't buy this CD. If you like major chords don't buy this CD. IF you think Lucretia is the best Sisters song ever don't buy this CD. If however you want to hear some of the best post punk ever created this is it. This is the only Sisters CD that stands shoulder to shoulder with Joy Division's Closer or the Bauhaus record In the Flat Field or even Skinny Puppy's Remission. This also has all the best dance songs that the Sisters ever wrote. Just in case you need them listed because you didn't bother to ask the DJ the last time you were at the club they are as follows: Alice, Floorshow, Adrenochrome, Temple of Love the extended version, Burn, Heartland, Body Electric, and Anaconda. If you listen to this and feel like you've been touched with live current then please do your self a favor and buy this and start looking for boot legs that have "Good Things" "Garden of Delight" and "Dance on Glass" You won't be sorry. Or if you are you'll like it."
