"Sizzla's "Rise to the Occasion" (Sept. 2003) Once again hits the mark!Although he isn't an artist that recieves alot of attention from the American public this album smashes previously held misconceptions of the talent and flexibility of Reggae/Dancehall artists.
Sizzla; already a mega-star in the local, european and asian reggae world has presented an album that breaks the tethers of his usual serious and spirituality-at all cost style, while remaining very goal oriented and even some parts romantic.
His third track "Give me a Try" is definitely the gem of this collection and if marketed properly would have been an ESSENTIAL R&B slow jam.For this track he uses a unique melodic vocal style that (his obvious limited vocal range and talent aside) comes across REALLLLY well and he does so unopologetically (those of us who remember nothing compares to u by Sinead O' Connor will understand).
Caution- This and all other tracks aren't done justice by low-bitrate MP3's. SIzzla Even has 2 tracks( 11 & 12) with an overwhelming jazz influence, these come off really well also, even jazz purists should approve.Track #5 will appeal to even the most hardcore hip-hop fan as he raps... yes raps, really well too... it could have been a club mainstay.
The rest of his tracks are dedicated to his dancehall faithful. This album is a must, only overshadowed by the amazing "Da real Thing".Sizzla has done it Again!! Un-apologetically!"
