"Hailing from Sacramento, the greatest music town ever, the Skirts play an infectious and playful pop punk tightrope that at times can scathe with a disarming sweetness that will have the soft hearted boys watching their back. The group consists of Lynn Mayugba (vocals) Sunita Bhardwaj (Lead Guitar) Karen Simmons (Rhythm Guitar) Gerri Ranta (Bass) and Wendy Powell (Drums) and all the ladies share backup vocal duties. Although they are stronger as a unit, they have all had successful musical pasts. Wendy played drums in the Groovie Ghoulies for years, Karen was a keyboardist in the Star Trek hard-core band No Kill I, Sunita was the guitarist in Moist, and Gerri was the Lead Singer and Guitarist for the much missed Salmonella. Only Lynn is a musical newcomer but after one listen you will see she has a confident style and velvet smooth delivery. Opening with the surging hop along "Eat" that flaunts a raucous solo that would even leave Jones scratchin' his pompadoured head. While on the jagged "Criminal Art" it's the propulsive rhythms that will get the heads bobbin' while Gerri and Karen switch jobs as Gerri charges through the guitar chops while Karen handles the swelling bass lines. Though all six of the songs are great, the standout here is "Sonny" so named for Lynn's husband. "Sonny" slings out with all the hookiness of the Go-Go's yet with the stiletto crunch that so many bands before them have lacked. Get this while you can, for I think it won't be to long before it will be on a major and cost you twice as much."
