CD ReviewsFantastic come back album! Michael A. Carra | bronx, new york | 11/28/2009 (5 out of 5 stars) "It has been 5 years sinse Skyfire released "spectral", and they are back stronger than ever with "esoteric". Skyfire return with the signature sound we have come to love, but matured, Heavier, more progressive, and more epic. "esoteric" is without a doubt their strongest release yet. Guitarist Johan Reinholdz (also andromeda's guitarist) is a new addition to the band, and this is the first album featuring him. Johan Reinholdz is truly a guitar virtuoso, and the impact of him joining skyfire is very noticeable. He brings something to the band that i always thought they lacked. That being Guitar solos, and better guitar leads. His guitar playing on this album is diffidently one of the highlights. He also adds allot to the prog side of the band. The new vocalist is good, hes a good screamer/growler. The rest of the band is better than ever. what you get here is a very heavy, epic album. With blast beats, and killer riffs! a progressive experience! Lots of great guitar playing, and great musicianship all around. "esoteric" is a must for all metal fans. If you let this one slip your truly missing out..." Skyfire back at it! misha2707 | 10/21/2009 (4 out of 5 stars) "The long wais is over. Swedish metallers Skyfire have released Esoteric, a mind-numbing excursion into dimensions of metal few have previously explored. A clever mixture of symphonic black metal and melodic death metal with influences of progressive and power metal, Esoteric is a masterful album.
All of the instruments are very well orchestrated (and yes, that was the appropriate choice of words). Guitar melodies are very catchy, and the vocals are awesome. The siger has a great range between black metal-type howling and gutteral death growls. The albums length is just right, not too long and not too short. A few songs do leave a bit to be desired, but none are bad, except for when you get to the final track. The final track is what I didn't like about this album. It wasn't just that the clean vocals threw me off, but that I simply didn't find them well done. It seems like most of the instruments were also toned down in recording and mixing this song. Cover or not, I didn't care for the track, and my dislike for it is what ultimately influenced me to dock Esoteric a whole point. Still, this is a very good album. It is a fitting album to be the first released in the U.S. Skyfire's Esoteric gets 3.9/5 stars." |
