CD Reviews

Same old, same old

"I get the trick now. R&B is reissued and retreaded in different forms ("Greatest Hits, Definitive Collections", etc.), when the same songs rear themselves in every edition. And when a new song (or songs) are included, its usually some lame track no one wants (or it would have been released with an original issue album). This collection follows form. R&B music does not seem to warrant the release of music in original album form, or if so, in such small release that they become collector's items. When, when, when is Slave going to release "Just a Touch of Love" in CD form? Its almost becoming laughable how labels get away with retreading the same music, with just enough variation that most people wind up with multiple CD that are, for the most part, the same music, with a new track included here or there. Some essential R&B albums have not been touched because we continue to bite on the same hook with each release. If this review seems wanting as far as addressing this particular "CD", its because you've heard all this music on various CD's before (and have probably already collected all the AVAILABLE essential tracks)."

"Huge Slave Fan. in there first inception Slave had wicked Grooves&got on the map big time with the Funk all out Classic "Slide". that jam is still wicked Crazy to this day. but the era of Steve Arrington is what really took Slave to the next level. Steve Arrington is One of the Most Slept on Musical talents Ever. dude was a Beast on Drums, tight on Bass&Had Vocal Runs that were out of this world. quite a few cats have tired, but none of them can nail those runs&holding down the notes like Steve Arrington did back in the day. Watching you, Snap Shot, wait for me are monsters. his solo joints "Weak at the Knees", you meet my approval" just keep your head Bopping. Arrington was one of the few cats who get Michael Jackson's Ad libs&yet add his own flavor on top of that with Jazz Runs Vocally."
I TOTALLY agree with TMACK79...

"...I was listening to my "STELLAR FUNK - The Best of Slave" compilation, when it dawned on me that "Party Lites" wasn't included!

Again, TMACK79 hit the head on the nail - how do record company's expect to continue to sell CDs when they continue to offer out watered down "Best Of..." and "Definitive Collection" compilations, and then adding radio versions of everything?! Hopefully the buying public will eventually wise up. What a joke...

Record Companies - open up those musical libraries/archives and give the people what they want! Maybe that'll help curb dishonest people from attempting to acquire the music they want illegally from P2P and Russian music sites (I personally don't believe in them, but the original Napster back in the day DID have better offerings than the record companies)!

Amazon - you guys are big enough to resolve this issue with the record company's AND give Apple a run for their money selling music digitally!

Or perhaps buydotcom would be interested in resolving this....?"
