CD Reviews

The best R&B album in at least the last ten years!

"This album did not sell all that well. This album's singles did not get all that much airplay on the radio. It is a crime that this album did not get the accolades it deserved. This came out in a time where P. Diddy (or Puff Daddy as he was called then) was at his peak, running the airwaves with music full of samples. If this had been released maybe a year later, it would have probably sold ten times what it did, and there would have been Grammy nominations all around. People were simply not ready to hear something of this quality. This is the most amazing contemporary R&B album around.
The group is basically a throw-back to the soul singers of the 50's and 60's. The harmonize as beautifully as The Temptations and the Four Tops, while providing a powerful emotion to the lead vocals not heard since Sam Cooke and Marvin Gaye. They do not shy away from comparisons to the legends, they invite them by giving the listener acapella interludes to some of Cookes greatest hits in between their own.
I have always felt as though I was born in the wrong generation for my musical tastes. I prefer the old school soul music, such as Marvin Gaye, Al Green, Aretha Franklin, and others to the emotionless R&B vocalists that we are given today. This album was a dream come true for me.
Solo mixes that old school soul with new school R&B to provide a sound all their own. I have shown this album to many, many friends of all ages only to see their eyes light up, as if their music taste buds were awakened.
The album does not have any slow spots, or duds at all. This is an album that you can listen to all the way through. There are obviously those tracks that rise above the rest though. The best tracks on the album are Blowin' my Mind, Heaven, It's Such a Shame, He's Not Good Enough, Where do You Want me to Put it, and Holdin' On. In my opinion, the group shines most brightly on In Bed, an old school slow jam that just drips sex, and their cover of A Change is Gonna Come, where they show off their impressive emotional lead vocalists.
Buy this album for yourself, and for anyone else that loves great music. This is for anyone that loves the old school Motown sound, and for anyone who is discouraged by the bland sound of soul music today. This is an explosion of hope."
Still awesome after 10 years

"I was purging my closets and cassette tapes ( I know I am dating myself) this past weekend and came across this album...I forgot how much I loved this album! I played it twice and sung every song like it was playing on the radio. I had to get me a copy from Amazon.. THIS IS A KEEPER .. REAL MUSIC THAT STANDS THE TEST OF TIME"

"Of all the years that I have been old enough to know what music was all about, there has always a performer or a group that comes about and has the touch but always just drop out of the limelight, some of them should have never been there from the begining. In this case,Solo has got the touch, talent, and the knowhow when it comes to music from the heart.......Too bad they are not doing their magic anymore. The old school public needs more talent like them.........."
