Amazon.comThe Mexican composer Ponce is best known for his song "Estrellita" and for the guitar music he wrote for Andrés Segovia. He even wrote imitations of the lute works by Sylvius Leopold Weiss for Segovia, which were originally published as Weiss's work. One such work, a suite, is included here; it doesn't sound like Weiss, but it's very pleasant music. So are the pleasant miniatures that make up the rest of Jukka Savijoki's well-played program. Poor Diego Blanco gets stuck playing the endless variations of La Follia, a sorry example of what happens when a fine miniaturist tries to write in a big form he can't handle. --Leslie Gerber
