"When you get two people together, who are the best of the best in their field, what is the result...pure entertainment with a pinch of perfection...not since the days of Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong has there been such excitement in lyrics, attitude and presenting a song...is it any wonder that this album came to be from these two wonderful people ~ Carol Sloane and Clark Terry...what more fitting title ~ "The Songs Ella & Louis Sang". Carol's approach to each tune with a verse inclusive is refreshing...and Clark Terry, what can I say...been a fan of his since his days in St. Louis...a member of the Count Basie Band (my all-time favorite), Duke Ellington (one of the top American composers)...the Tonight Show...those were all such great times. With the main ingredient (Carol & Clark), hold onto your hat it's going to be an fun-filled musical experience...the likes you've never heard...additional musicians are Bill Charlap (piano), Marcus McLaurine (bass) and Dennis Mackrel (drums)...gives you a trip you'll remember days, months and years to come, can't say enough. Appreciate ~ Allen Farnham (producer), John Burk (executive producer) and Concord Records, most definitely the leader in this musical genre known as "JAZZ"...much credit to the deep-rich beautiful voice of Carol Sloane...and the improvisation of Clark Terry, as he throws his head back at the end of "CAN'T WE BE FRIENDS", with "Oh, Yeah!"...like Satchmo would do...just a note to Concord, would like to see a "Volume Two". You might try other Carol Sloane albums, all worthy of a good listen ~ "The Songs Sinatra Sang" (CCD-4725)..."The Songs Carmen Sang" (CCD-4663)..."When I Look In Your Eyes" (CCD-4619)...check out my reviews on amazon.com/music. Total Time: 59:18 on 12 Tracks ~ Concord Jazz CCD-4787-2 ~ (1997)"
