"Sony has gathered onto this CD recordings made in New York by two great C20th musicians whose careers were closely linked with the musical life of Vienna. You'll not hear them working together here, though: Lehmann's items were recorded in 1941 with Paul Ulanowsky as her accompanist, and the Johann Strauss works conducted by Bruno Walter were recorded in 1956.Lehmann is heard in rich vintage splendor, short of breath but full of eagerness. A few French songs are amongst her contributions. Bruno Walter's management of some stock Johann Strauss Jnr items is brisker and tougher than that of most other conductors. The recordings (mono) are of top quality for their period, and the CD's duration is 69 minutes."
