CD ReviewsSoup was the greatest David witter | Madison, Wisconsin | 06/30/2000 (5 out of 5 stars) "I saw the band Soup play about 7 or 8 times in the early 1970's. Still to this day I have not had such an experiance. This CD captures the sound of the band and the feel of eara. The song Sorry was recorded live in Wisconsin and the band played this song a lot at the end of their shows. With multie track recording common, you might not think much of the two lead guitars playing different leads at the same time, untill you understand that this was done by one guy at the same time. Doug Yankus on the song Sorry did just that, and to see and hear this live was something else. Now it's on cd. I used to have the album, so when I heard the cd, it blew me away again. I really hope that the Yankus family will make more of this music available in the near future. Like their second lp that was put out by big tree." Finally, it's still SOUP Peter Bebeau | Kaukauna, Wisconsin | 03/12/2000 (4 out of 5 stars) "Well, we all waited a real long time, but after 30 years we finally have SOUP on C.D. The folks at Gear Fab did a real nice job on both the sound quality and the packaging. The original viynl was hardly virgin but this sounds much cleaner, specifically "I'm So Sorry". The earlier cuts from "Private Property" really have that youthful, garage feel, but you can certainly hear the influence of the Hollies/Byrds/Buffalo- Springfield. SOUP was so aptly named. So many sounds run through the music that one has to wonder if it was a goof, or a trip in the grocery that brought the name out. I know it was a "Cream" concert that brought the band together and certainly had an effect on their sometimes lenghty jams. The album starts out with a version of Buddy Holly's "Mailman" done with a little country flair. The next cut "Man To Be Tied" shows the jazz influence,(Monk),that Doug felt and is one of my favorites. Note the change between "Dear and Blue" and Black Cat Blues"for a real treat. I think "Tennessee"was written to someone very special,or the band,or we fans, as Doug was off to try his hand at studio work in Nashville. The afore mentioned "I'm So Sorry" is a blend of all that was "SOUP" and especially Doug. Unbelievable fullnes for a 3 piece band, speed, taste, lyrics, and vocals by all three members that went way beyond anyone from Wisc. at that time. "Veronica" is another ballad, while "Big Boss Man" again show cases Dougs speed and ability. "Dance Magic Woman" is a real Rocker off the bands second album, while "Song for Jackie" is a song Doug wrote and played and evolved in acoustic form for most of his too short career, once again showing his range of ability. The"private Property" cuts are nice but rough ,showing age ((real young) and a direction Doug did not wat to go. In the end this C.D.shows that and this fan knows that. Perhaps "Soup" was too much, too many directions, too many influences, too hard to nail down, and therfore niche. Thank-you Gear Fab, for almost too many memories.(But if you've got more,I for one will buy them). Peter" My Dad Rob's girl | 07/28/2006 (5 out of 5 stars) "It is great to know that so many people have such good memories of my father (he was the drummer in this band). I did not get to experience seeing him play live, but I was so touched to see that this CD was put together, so that I could hear the work that he did. You should definitely buy this CD :) It's amazing ;)"
