CD Reviews

Allmans, marshall tucker, bob dylan, lost classic
Joseph P. Mcguinness | charleston, sc United States | 06/22/2005

"If you can find either of their albums for a reasonable price pick them up. I would actually say get them for the ridiculous price here and sell them back later because these are lost gems surely to be salivated upon later by people who have not heard of them yet. This is my favorite by the band.

Les is the only one to go on to bigger things I think, but they were all great. Jeff (I think) the guitar player has a field day on this one. He was honestly better live, but here you can check out some great studio action on painted desert sky, save the whales, silvergun f-in awesome guitar licks.

the lyrics are what make this the better of the two albums. I can hear them in my head months after playing these cds.

follow me down:

I don't need no LA in stereo

screamin in my ears

I don't need no california rose or a cocaine nose

to tell you where I been

but when I look into your eyes I can feel those tears fallin down

sittin on a mountain

shes lookin at me

I'm lookin at the sun

waitin for rain to fall

down down down

shes waintin to make love

I can feel it cold and wet against my skin

the sky is fallin down

sweet songbird serenade me

think of me baby when they do oh

may the winds bring you safe across the waters

back to me lord and baby won't you follow me down

silvergun:

well I saw an angel

held her in my mind

she showed me through the branches of the tree of life

yeah but all she gave me was a miracle

to the end and back again where the sun goes dry up above man

and the drums they play there hypnotic and beautiful

I saw a million angels born again into your head

can you hear me I said feel me in your head

I could go on, but I just wanted to make the point that these are not throw away songs. You will love them and remember them and come back to them if you like southern rock. It's a shame that they were never signed. We have so many stones impersonators nowadays, but very few bands doing what the allmans were doing (if any maybe black crowes?) and these guys did it very well while they were around."
