"Ever since I was asked "so, do you like Wilco? well, I know this band..." by one of the band member's parents, no less, in what was really a shameless plug that only a parent could pull off, I have been hooked on Southeast Engine. This is their most ambitious, fully realized artistic endeavor yet. The album is divided into two parts, the forest and the sea, though musical and lyrical themes repeat and connect the two parts. The content varies from the shallow (materialism, an affair) to the very deep (a scientific discovery tests faith), plunging the depths of spirituality all the way to the bottom of the ocean. The sound is very much their own, but, yeah, if you like Wilco, you'll like this band."
