CD Reviews

Now this is music!
Louise Evans | NewZealand | 07/14/2000
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I bought this album four years ago while visiting Australia. Its original and beautiful sound struck me from the start. It was so refreshing to hear this quartet blend the heritage of their country together in music. A particular favourite is "Weeping" which never fails to make me think. This is one of those rare albums that you can listen to without skipping tracks. The quality has improved since Zebra Crossing, and seems more vibrant and energised than ever before. Many an afternoon has been spent leaping around the living room to this CD! This is an esential to your collection."

"What can I say? I will always picture my time in Southern Africa when I hear this song. We were in Otjiwarongo Namibia when I first was introduced to SSQ. With their African Rhythms, Classical Clarity, What an awesome Mix. There is not a song that I do not like. Zebra Crossing is a 3-4 star, but this one, best so far, but can't wait for the new one in 2000! Ok, I didn't say much about the album did I? Just Trust me, buy it!"
Every Symphony should play these songs
Robert W. Benson | San Carlos, California | 05/12/2000

"On our last day of a 2 week vacation in South Africa we were introduced to this album by a record shop owner in Johannesburg. We asked for advise for purchasing African music and he suggested this album. The music is "happy music" that picks you up and makes you want to dance. It is a great album to own or to give to someone you love. The first cut is a great rendition of "The Lion Sleeps Tonight". The strings meld elegantly with chants. The fifth cut, "Eureka", is another of my favorites. It is a cheerful violin piece that reminds me of a country fiddle. I hope that every symphony in the country listens to this album and plays songs from it along with the usual Mozart. Trust me -- buy this album."
