Synopsis
Amazon.com The poorly titled and executed Hogyssey builds on Spacehog's reputation of anonymous alterna-pop, à la Third Eye Blind and Superdrag. This release does not surprise, and therefore does not disappoint. It's something of a concept album as the band claims that the track sequence is "loosely based on the sequence of events in the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey." This does not explain the second-to-last cut, "At Least I Got Laid." (By a monolith? Explain, please.) Actually, to be fair, the band does offer up a surprisingly catchy cut on the third track, "I Want to Live." This sudden explosion of competency startles and snaps before the band continues their Hogyssey towards the middle of the road. --Jason Josephes Similar CDs

CD ReviewsOne of the best I own P. Blodgett | Cleveland, OH USA | 07/05/2004 (5 out of 5 stars) "And I own well over 700 cds. This disc is simply amazing. From the initial jangle of "Jupiter's Moon" to the finale "The Horror", this album never fails to deliver. Some other critics have given this CD a low review because the song "At Least I Got Laid" doesn't fit with the 2001 theme. To them I say: have you ever seen 2001? Because aside from the fact that the first song is call "Jupiter's Moon", the CD has nothing to do with Kubrik's masterpiece. It's called a parody, people. Oh, well. These are the same guys who are going to be confused and disappointed that Micheal Moore's film Fahrenheit 9/11 has nothing to do with Ray Bradbury's novel Fahrenheit 451.If you're looking for a concept album, pick up some Pink Floyd. If you're looking for some awesome alt. rock, then grab this CD. It doesn't get much better than this, especially if you've listened to the radio any time in the last five years."
