Lull me

"If you've never owned a Spinanes CD, -imp years- is the perfect introduction: an overflowing handful of early melodies that perfectly predict what has followed. For Spinanes regulars, it is a lovely and generous EP that will help us pass the time until we are blessed with a follow-up to the brilliant -arches and aisles-. All of the songs on imp years were recorded almost a decade ago. To this listener, they are lullabys that this baby would have believed were new. I think I settled in Portland (west coast) just as the Spinanes were moving south (and east, as it were), and indeed, I discovered them just after I moved here, too late for small shows in cozy clubs but not too late for the smallest venue of all: my headphones. Once again (or, happily, for the first time? ), Rebecca Gates will likely cause you to cozy yourself beside the closest speaker: her voice will lull you just as her lyrics wreck you. Headphones will always get you the closest to her amazing lyrics. The songs on this short CD seem to get better as you go, but always make you want to hit REPEAT. After doing so myself several times, I am especially enchanted by -HAWAIIAN BABY-.....you'll hear."
Must own if you are a Spinanes fan

"I was thrilled to see these early 7 inch singles become available on this one CD. Hawaiian Baby, Suffice, and Rummy top anything off of "Manos" (which is the Spinanes' best album). Hawaiian Baby is a true favorite...covered by Buffalo Tom even!"
