WOW!!!

"This CD might not seem to cost much from the Amazon.com vendors, but mark my words, its some of the finest Richard Strauss I've heard! Karajan, Solti, Bohm, Klemperer, Strauss himself - I have everything on this disc from those conductors, and I prefer only the Klemperer and Strauss slightly higher than this. Move aside others. There isn't a great deal of sound quality, it's not a Solti sonic jet or a study in orchestral power like Karajan, but there is a good enough, modern stereo quality to make it pleasing to the ear. The humor and wit in Till Eulenspiegel is well represented but never approaching being "too cute", the Don Juan flows nicely, and the Zarathustra is well spoken without being overdone. One note - my CD is slightly different from the one pictured, yet the recordings are the same. Many different labels exist for these it seems, but all are worth more than their share. This is one of the best bargains on Amazon.com."
Superior Strauss for less than value meal

"I bought my copy of this outstanding CD at Big Lots for 3 dollars. Charles Mackerras is one of our finest conductors with an exceptionally large repertoire. The Royal Philharmonic is a superior orchestra with a very dark sound. A few years ago the RPO embarked on a series of recordings using many different conductors. The label is called "Royal Philharmonic". In England, it is called "Tring". Unlike many super budget series, this one features extensive notes. The three performances here are taut, extremely well played and beautifully thought out. In other words, very typical Charles Mackerras. You cannot buy a better version of these three chestnuts for this money."
