""Sweets From a Stranger" is a very good album. The problem is that it follows after Squeeze's two best albums- "Argybargy" and "East Side Story" which are both absolute masterpieces. "Sweets" is still very good. The songs "His House, Her Home", "The Elephant Ride", "Onto the Dance Floor" and especially "Tongue Like a Knife" stand up well to anything that Squeeze has ever made. True, this album does not measure up to its best, but by now Squeeze had set the bar pretty high. If you are new to Squeeze, go with "East Side Story" or the hits collection, "Singles". If you enjoy Squeeze and are looking for others, this one will not disappoint. As a general rule, early Squeeze is very good, later Squeeze is more sophistacted, but with the exception of "Some Fantastic Place" not quite as good. Of course, its all subjective."

"This Album was a teenage favorite of mine that I rediscovered a few years ago. I do not understand how I ever related to the Chris Difford lyrics as a teenager. As an adult, I find the lyrics devastatingly artistic and clever. Dealing with topics which all of us must navigate, 'Sweets' is a great CD to sit down and listen to and reflect upon. Brilliant stuff."

This UK import was remastered and re-released, along with several other Squeeze albums, in 1997.
The audio on the old U.S. domestic version of this title pales in comparison. This CD sounds fabulous.
The 2007 Japanese mini-sleeve uses the exact same remaster."
