More to Life Remixes
C. Dixon | Silver Spring, MD USA | 09/20/2003

"I'm usually not a huge fan of remixes, but I absolutely love these. More to Life is the 2nd single from Stacie's self-titled second album. The tracks on the single are:1. Album Version - 3:21
2. JN Radio Edit - 3:10
3. Global Soul Edit - 3:10
4. Goodandevil/Ruff Ryders Remix f/ Jin - 3:15
5. Briss Remix - 3:23
6. Dr. Octavo Extended Remix - 4:47
7. Jason Nevins Club Creation - 7:12My personal favorite is the Goodandevil/Ruff Ryders remix which adds a dose of hip-hop flavor to the mix with harder beats and a rap by talented newcomer Jin. My least favorite is probably the Briss remix where the beats seem to be working against Stacie's voice. Still a decent track, but not a standout. The JN, Global Soul, and Dr. Octavo mixes are all perfectly suited for the dance floor. The Club Creation remix features the fewest vocals, but still offers plenty of banging beats. All in all a worthwhile purchase for any Stacie fan or a fan of the song. Enjoy!"
Stacie makes us all look for more to life.

"The wonderfully powerful and nuanced vocal talents of Stacie Orrico, which first graced the ears of mainstream music fans with "Stuck", her strong (and age appropriate) ode to the angst of teenage romance, reaches even higher levels with "There's Gotta Be More to Life" her stellar second single of her eponymous debut album.

This album is a tricky transition for Stacie because it marks her departure from the purely Christian rock scene to the more widely accessible mainstream pop audience. While it is desirable to make that transition to reach more people, it is also a move that can fall flat if the singer doesn't recognize the importance of gearing lyrics towards that broader audience. Christian musicians generally are not well-received by the more secular audiences who don't want to repeatedly hit over the head with messages about God, Jesus, and the singer's personal devotion to them. At the same time, the artist can still run the risk of alienating their Christian fan base if they veer to far from their roots. In addition to being an amazing song, "There's Gotta Be More to Life" remarkably achieves that balancing act.

The main lyric in the chorus goes `There's gotta be more to life ... Than chasing down every temporary high to satisfy me' reflects the struggle of a person who feels something missing in their life, but can't figure out what it is. So, they go in search of temporary things to fill that void while realizing that it's still not fulfilling them. For those more in tune with Christian music and messages, it's easy to interpret the song's meaning as God being the `more to life' that Stacie is looking for. However, the delivery is so subtle that one can find their own meaning in it separate from religious leanings. The core message is that material pursuits alone will not be enough to make one feel complete.

On top of the strong message, "There's Gotta be More To Life" also boasts a wonderful display of Stacie's vocal range. The main verses showcase her jazzier voice that could fit comfortably singing blues tunes in a smoky lounge or on an R&B sound stage. The chorus highlights the soaring powerhouse pipes that make the elite pop songs standout, while other elements show off her soft, comforting vocals that show the potential to produce soothing (yet powerful) ballads.

Stacie Orrico is an artist that I hope we hear from for a long time. Her earlier accomplishments at bridging the Christian and secular music scenes are encouraging. Yet, it's her voice that proves she's a talent that could have the legs for a long journey in this industry.

Gripping!

"Staccie's single is so gripping. She's one talented singer who writes with a passion about the love of the almighty.
As a christian radio dj, today i played her single. Many listeners called in to say Staccie is the best. One chucklingly said that she's moreover still a virgin and that's why her music is so powerful!
Her voice just flows like the birds of dawn,it's amazing that even her beauty pours forth in this song.
If you've not got a copy what are you waiting for? Staccie is one fortunate christian musician that's irresistable. She and her songs are simply gripping."
