"The songs on this CD which come from the very early 50's show Stan Getz, playing ballads at his most "Cool" and aloof. In the early 50's, there were few "albums" to speak of, songs mostly came out as singles on 78rpm shellac's and held less than 4 minutes of music, so the songs were short and concise. They would later be collected on various albums, so one may find these selections on numerous other CD's.What is interesting here is the sound recovery technology. A European company has used some pretty slick wizardry to take these mono recordings and render them stereo, remove noise, and make them sound three dimensional. The transformations are little short of miraculous and the cleaned up sound is so different from the original as to sound like a completely new recording! They sound like they were recorded yesterday. Is this good? On some tracks, it's a revelation. On others, there are some occational odd unnatural resonances. Certainly worth hearing for those interested in Getz ballads from the period of the "Roost Recordings"."
