CD Reviews

I'M HOME IN THE DELTA!

"First of all, there is a track on the CD in which Whitney sings a bridge and for that reason alone you should buy the CD.Overall, the CD is rich with mellow music with a jazzy twist. A Great collection of artistes on a CD that seems to celebrate Mya's first directorial debut. The first 16 tracks are amazing (NOTE: There are only 16 tracks). With Luther Vandross, Cassandra Wilson on one song together, Why would I hesitate to not fall in love with this. I put this soundtrack up there with my Love Jones CD. Heaven Must be like this...........Janet, Whitney, Luther, Cassandra and Stevie, Chaka, Me'shell and D'angelo. How can you go wrong? This CD was recommended to me by one of my Amazon friends and I am really glad that I did purchase it."
A very well-blended, super-strong soundtrack

"Sometimes when a record company/executive producer tries to combine two different artists from different musical genres to accompany a movie, it usually is a recipe for disaster. I'm glad that it wasn't the case with Down in the Delta, the soundtrack to the movie of the same name starring Alfre Woodard..

Featuring an international "who's who" in R&B, alternative, blues and jazz, it (like some other soundtracks) goes well hand-in-hand with the movie.

It kicks off with Sunday (featuring the one and only Whitney Houston) with "Believe in Love", a churchy-esque song with a very positive message. A surprise to me was D'Angelo's smooth jazz remake of the Ohio Players' "Heaven Must Be Like This". The lineup keeps it coming with songs by Sounds of Blackness, Chaka Khan, Keb'Mo and Me'Shell Ndegeocello, Stevie Wonder, Shawn Stockman (of Boyz II Men), Janet Jackson, Jazzyfatnastees and the Roots, Cassandra Wilson, Bob James, legendary saxman and movie composer Stanley Clarke, Sweet Honey in the Rock, Eddie Levert (of the mighty, mighty O'Jays), Tracie Spencer and R&B husband & wife hit-making duo, Ashford & Simpson. It also features some songs by the late R&B all-stars Luther Vandross, famed brothers Gerald and Sean Levert and Tony Thompson (the lead singer of Hi-Five).

Production was done by Prince, Scott Storch, Gregory D. Hines, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis and California rapstar/producer, DJ Quik.

Though underappreciated (like the movie was), it's a must-have with the Love Jones and Waiting to Exhale soundtracks.

I highly recommend the soundtrack and the movie. Thumbs up!"

"The movie to this soundtrack will be one of my favorites. But the CD on this is just beautiful. Hearing D'Angelo singing "Heaven Must Be Like This" make you wish you could see how heaven is. "Patchwork Quilt" by Sweet Honey in the Rock is another favorite. It is sweet yet so haunting. "IF Ever" by Stevie Wonder reminds you a nice summer's day and everything is well. Luther's contribution"Only Human" is also another favorite making it mellow yet seductive. A great CD. I enjoy it and you would too."
