"In most cases Stanley Clarke is known for his electric funky
jazz-rock bass playing but on "This Is Jazz" Stan's artsier and jazzier side is emphasized. Some cuts employ some very late
80's "smooth" jazz synthesizers but as heard on "What If I Forgot The Champange" and an odd cover on Mingus's "Goodbye Pork Pie Hat" the arrangements are a little obvious.Only the final cut,an imaginative live version of "All Blues" boes Clarke's jazz side come to full fruitation. Most people will be more satisfied with Stnaley's first four solo albums circa.1973 to 1976 but this is an interesting,if not essencial anthology."
