Someone's Playing Our Song
These Georgia boys have old-school country down pat, full of whining pedal steel, biting guitar, and most importantly, Dave Marr's tortured vocals. Not for the weak of heart, Marr's songs update the tear-in-your-beer honky... more »-tonk aesthetic, but they have an emotional depth and sincerity that make them stick in your head. --Marc Greilsamer« less

"I bought Why Do Lonely Men... at a Star Room Boys show here in Atlanta, and I thought it would be good, just a nice record to have, something I'd listen to once or twice and then put on the shelf. For the next eight weeks, it was all I could do to take it out of the CD player and listen to something else. It's just exquisite."
These guys are the real deal!

"This is an exquisite album. In fact, it may be the best album I've heard in several years. There isn't a bad song in the bunch. Like Joe Ely, these guys are so good, it's no wonder you'll never hear them on the radio (although I have a hunch the late, great KFAT in Gilroy, CA would have played them)."

"Even though I had the opportunity to meet a member of the band, and instantly met a life long friend. I did not realize that I would be listening to their entire CD over and over again on my 12 hour trip from Georgia to Louisiana. They have one of the most intriguing sounds I have heard in a LONG time, and they are becoming quite a favorite in my home town. Way to go Star Room Boys! Keep up the AWESOME JOB!"
Wonderful music: genuine, rhythmic, and good lyrics

"I heard this band at a professional conference in Georgia and had no idea who they were, except that everyone loved to dance to them and to listen to their music. They were not loud and show offy, just played very good music. Friends of theirs were selling CD's, so I bought one, and was probably one of the few to do so. That was my good fortune, for I have continued to enjoy them, as do now my friends and teenage sons. They are a genuine mixture of old and new and have their own distinctive sound. I encourage you to check them out."
Back when "Country" was "Country and Western"

"This CD has to be the greatest release of 1999 if not the 1990s! Dave writes them like they used to. I have never owned a CD where I didn't want to skip over at least one song...until this one! This CD is just as great as their live shows (minus the dancing!) An added bonus is that all the members of Star Room Boys are truly wonderful and kind people! Thank you for an incredible CD, guys!"
