CD ReviewsSTARFISH...Parents like it too! M. Butler | NJ | 06/07/2010 (5 out of 5 stars) "It can be quite a challenge to find kids music with any depth. A majority of kids music out there just overly simplistic drivel with all the edges sanded off and no personality. A few artists step above the massive blob of yawn inspiring blandness. Dan Zanes ofcourse, They Might be Giants, and now... STARFISH. The simple fact is, Starfish are darn good musicians. Not just three chord folk singers, they can flex their musical muscles as they bounce between reggae ("Sick Day"), hard rock ("Time Out"), funk ("My Name is No"), punk ("Rhymes"), and even kiddie prog! ("Bike"). Never before have I heard such an ecclectic mix of songs on one kids CD. And not just ecclectic, but tight. They can really play. In addition to their excellent chops, Starfish also offers extraordinarily catchy and kid friendly lyrics. They cover such topics as getting in trouble, friends, bike riding, playing, being sick, and of course ROCKING! They are truly Rock and Roll 101 for kids. They name drop the greatest songs of all time while also slipping in little musical nods to songs we all know. I think the my favorite thing about this CD is the vocal arrangements. Each songs has nice catchy lead vocal to start. But they up it a notch by interweaving fantastic backing vocals & harmonies. The two highlight moments for me in terms of catchy hooks and great harmonies are "Spread Your Wings" and "Elephant". Both songs just carry my ears and spirits to a new level. (Both Beatles & Jellyfish fans out there will love "Elephant"). Anyway...what I am trying to say is this. Starfish give kids music a much needed kick in the butt. They are a breath of fresh air and they help remove the "cringe" from the term kids music. So if you are a rock-n-roll parent and you want to find music for your kids that you can dig too, "Enter Sandbox" is the CD for you. (I mean come on! They even cover a song from Sweet!). Enjoy. " ROCKIN' KIDS BAND! CROCHET ROCKS | NJ | 06/01/2010 (5 out of 5 stars) "I love, love, LOVE this CD! It's perfect for kids. It's got a little of this and that. It incorporates many kinds of music styles that'll get your little ones movin' and groovin' to the beat. The best part? You never have to worry about offensive or inappropriate lyrics. Just put the music on and let the kids (and parents!) start dancin'. Additionally, this is the kind of music that parents won't get annoyed having to listen to over and over again (and believe me, you'll be hearing it a lot because it'll be a hit with your kids!) Check out "Bike" and "Learning to Rock" for some upbeat fun." Finally, A Kids' Band That We All Like To Listen To Nicole | 06/02/2010 (5 out of 5 stars) "If you have a child, know someone who has a child, or just want to be like a child yourself, this band is a refreshing change to children's music. Their songs are ones that you will like to listen to with your kids - they are intelligent, fun, humorous, and poignant with awesome instrumentalists!!! I bought one for my kids and am now buying for my nephews and some for birthday gifts. I'm tired of mine disappearing!"
