Not-so-silent waters

"I own about a dozen Stephan Micus albums, and this is my favorite of them all. It's pretty typical, featuring his multi-tracking of various folk instruments, usual and not-so-usual, but his imagery of the ocean is compelling, shimmering and convincing. The second cut especially draws me back over and over; it begins with several minutes of solo mouth-organ, then suddenly breaks out into a recurring wind-like flute melody backed by a slew of multi-tracked zithers and hammered dulcimers. What a beautiful piece--and it goes on for over twenty minutes! The rest of the cd is no less interesting with one piece featuring some of Micus's invented-word vocals, another, a fully solo mouth-organ exploration."
