Live in San Francisco would be more accurately named Live in the San Francisco Bay Area since the CD consists of tracks recorded at 1982 performances in SF and Saratoga, a community an hour to the south. Backed by guitarists Diz Disley and Martin Taylor and bassist Jack Sewing (a firing-on-all-four-cylinders foursome with two years of roadwork behind them), jazz's senior violinist is as limber and creative as ever, finding fresh perspectives on standards ("I've Got Rhythm," "Let's Fall in Love," St. Louis Blues") and selections culled from his revolutionary association with Django Reinhardt ("Swing 42," "Minor Swing"). What, A jazz VIOLIN? Yeah, and it'll swing your socks off! 11 tracks, mostly standards, but with some new stuff too; get with Stephane and his trio!
