Synopsis

Product Description
This is jazz vocalist Stephanie Nakasian's tribute to June Christy which she was inspired to do after being invited to perform at the Pete Rugolo tribute to Christy at the Jazz West II concert in Newport, CA in the late 90s. Featuring a carefully chosen selection of songs performed by June during her lifetime, this CD suggests the feel and mood of June Christy's songs, but does not attempt to re-create the original Rugolo charts. Stephanie's wonderful interpretations are assisted by Hod O'Brien, Harry Allen, and Steve Gilmore. All arrangements are by Stephanie Nakasian and Hod O'Brien.

CD Reviews

Stephanie Nakasian SHOULD be a household name

(5 out of 5 stars)

"Stephanie Nakasian may not be a well-known singer outside the Washington, D.C., area -- but she definitely should be. Her "Lullaby in Rhythm: A Tribute to June Christy" will please any fan of the former Stan Kenton vocalst. She's an outstanding jazz singer and handles 17 of Christy's finest tunes from her Capitol days very well. The result, thanks to her amazing voice and backup musicians like pianist Hod O'Brien, trombonist John Jensen, saxohonist Harry Allen, drummer Chuck Riggs and bassist Steve Gilmore, is a wonderful album on the V.S.O.P. label. Having discovered this CD, I'm now going to try some of her earlier efforts -- and begin educating my fellow jazz lovers about this hidden treasure."
