Guitar Town combines most of the original material from Stephen Bennett's very first recording (Tangier Morning, 1987) with an assortment of additional music. The earlier title was only released on cassette and so this presented the material to the public in cd format for the first time. It had been recorded immediately following his 1987 win at the National Flatpicking Guitar Championships. In the interim, the instrument for which he is perhaps most famous - the harp guitar - came into his hands through inheritance. There is a very wide variety of music on this cd but somehow it all works together, through the unifying element of Mr. Bennett's compositional and playing style, both of which were already on their way to becoming more widely recognized. As with nearly all of his recordings, the engineering was done by Kim Person, who has also gone on to greater renown in the acoustic guitar world.
