Synopsis

Product Description
Acclaimed musician/producer/songwriter Steve Dawson releases Waiting For The Lights To Come Up. The bulk of the new songs were written in a small period of time in between Steve's touring and recording projects. Dawson's production work has become sought-after for its multi-instrumental abilities and intricacies, while keeping live performance at the root of most of his projects. Jim Byrnes, Kelly Joe Phelps, Jenny Whiteley, Old Man Luedecke, Ndidi Onukwulu, and Shuyler Jansen are just a few of the many artists who have sought out Dawson in the last few years to produce, record and develop their music, and his instrumental abilities have appeared on over 75 albums and onstage with renowned artists like Long John Baldry, Bob Brozman, Geoff Muldaur, Oh Susanna, Justin Rutledge, and many others. With this wealth of experience, Dawson has taken his recording experience to new heights. Slide guitars, pump organs, pedal steel, wurlitzers, and baritone guitars all dance and sway through Dawson's strongest material to date.

"Be careful when looking for music by Steve Dawson, since there are at least two Steve Dawsons. This album is by the Steve Dawson who is a member of Zubot & Dawson. I first learned about Zubot & Dawson when I decided to see who Kelly Joe Phelps would trust to play slide guitar on Slingshot Professionals. That would be Dawson. Zubot & Dawson's albums are a bit more eclectic, drawing from bluegrass, gypsy jazz, blues, and a few other genres, but Steve Dawson's solo works are a bit more blues-heavy. They still draw on a wide range of influences, but the most prominent genre is the blues. This album has a more fleshed out sound than Dawson's previous solo albums (Welcome to the Gold Coast and Bug Parade). If you want to hear an album that really emphasizes Dawson's guitar chops, you are better off with Bug Parade. However, this is a fine album, and the interplay between Dawson's guitar and a variety of other instruments is consistently engaging. As a warning, this album mixes electric and acoustic sounds, so if you want a more acoustic sound, you should again find a copy of Bug Parade. However, if you liked KJP's Slingshot Professionals and the type of music recorded by guys like Bill Frisell and Doug Wamble, buy this one with confidence.
