CD ReviewsOne of the most underrated blues performers today 01/31/2001 (5 out of 5 stars) "Steve Guyger is a humble but very talented blues harmonica player. He's probably too humble for his own good, since he remains very little known outside of his local area. And yet, out of today's numerous blues harp players, Guyger really stands out as one of the only ones who manages to play in the spirit of the forefathers of blues harp (the Walters and Williamsons) without copying their licks and style of playing."Last Train to Dover" is a semi-acoustic release. Most of the tracks feature Steve on harp and sometimes vocals (there are quite a few instrumentals), accompanied by electric guitar and acoustic double-bass. It's an unusual sound, but it really works well. Guyger goes through a variety of covers and originals with comfortable ease and a laid back feel that sometimes gets mean. It's a dark album with a genuine atmosphere. One of the most amazing highlights is Guyger's rendition of the classic "John Henry", usually played acoustic on diatonic and played here heavily amplified on chromatic. Absolutely stunning !If you like good blues, you'll like this. If you like harmonica in particular, you owe it to yourself to hear Guyger ASAP"
