CD Reviews

Abbreviated Version of "King Biscuit Flower Hour Presents"
Robert Huggins | Suburban Philadelphia, PA United States | 03/03/2004
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Here's another release from BMG Special Products' "Extended Versions: The Encore Collection" budget line of live recordings, most of which are licensed from Pet Rock Records, the music releasing arm of The King Biscuit Flower Hour. This music was originally released as "King Biscuit Flower Hour Presents The Steve Miller Band" on two CDs. On that original release there were 25 songs culled from two concerts in 1973 and 1976. This budget release reduces that number to 10 songs with the majority taken from the 1976 concert. Below is a list of the songs that appear on this CD with the concert year in parentheses:1. The Joker (1976)
2. Fly Like An Eagle (1976)
3. Living In The USA (1973)
4. Space Cowboy (1973)
5. Your Cash Ain't Nothing But Trash (1973)
6. Baby's Callin' Me Home (1976)
7. Going To Mexico (1976)
8. Going To The Country (1976)
9. The Window (1976)
10. Seasons (1976)This disc loses a star because there's less than 50 minutes of music on the disc . . . another song or two could easily have fit on the disc. That said, this release has a lot going for it . . . a decent mix of familiar radio tunes and lesser known SMB songs, great playing by the band and a very good live recording. Fans of the SMB probably already have the King Biscuit Flower Hour release, so this disc would be a good introduction to those who only know the SMB through the radio hits but want to hear the band performing live. This is one of the better entries in the "Extended Versions: The Encore Collection" line."
