CD Reviews

A Subtle Roar!
10/27/1998
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Big Map Idea finds Steve Tibbetts in more subdued musical terrain. This is a mature album filled with hauntingly, atmospheric, slow hypnotic dreamy depth and texture. Fans of his more frenzied electric ventures might be disappointed. This is a contemplative acoustic tour that grows on the listener over time. Tibbetts is the master of "pictures made of sound" This is quintessential spiritual travel music!"

"Steve Tibbetts music can alter consciousness. He is a master of mood. Great stuff to listen to when traveling!! "Big Map Idea" is a quiet reflective album like his previous "Northern Song", but with more instruments and texture. an emotional, spiritual album, just as powerful as doing a zen seshinn. An audio analouge of the liquid bliss of Nirvana. Buy this album, you'll end up telling everyone about Steve Tibbetts!"

"So where do I begin in trying to describe the music of Steve Tibbets?.Dreamlike, fragile ,rustic, spaceage, wild, tender and dark.Music full of life, light, passion, redemption, compassion and the great free fall into nothingness. This is a modern guitarist, and also a modern composer.
If there is such a thing as a bad ,or even poor Steve Tibbets release,I have yet to hear it.Big Map Idea is yet another wonderful release from Tibbets and his long time collaborator( as if such a word could even begin to describe his role in the musicking of Mr T ) Marc Anderson. Once again we are invited on a journey to,not just uncharted territory, but imaginary territory.
So what more do you need to know.....just buy the thing...!!!"
