Synopsis

Amazon.com
In 10 years, Steven Curtis Chapman has charted 26 No. 1 hits, three Grammy Awards, and 32 Dove Awards (Christian music's equivalent of the Grammys). This release offers some of Chapman's best work in addition to two newer singles, "Not Home Yet" and "I Am Found in You," and rerecordings of "Lord of the Dance" and "The Walk," from the brilliant Signs of Life release. The latter two, labeled "Abbey Road versions," sound live, with soulful harmonica and additional guitar work not heard on the originals. Chapman's catalog of hits traces a developing and masterful artist who gains confidence and quality with each new release. --Michael Lyttle

Okay. It's his songs from long ago, but they are all classics. I had the CD playing in my car and I sang along with joy in my heart. It was like finding Steven all over again.

A Collection of Great Songs
Mark Baker | Santa Clarita, CA United States | 02/10/2002
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I don't envy the person who had to put this collection of songs together. Trying to pick the best of Steven Curtis Chapman's songs is incredibly hard. Almost every song he's done is powerful. Yet, this CD has captured some of his best work to date. There are two new songs included in this collection. "Not Home Yet" is a reminder to keep going because Heaven is our ultimate home. "I Am Found in You" is a prayer of commitment to God because He loves and cares for us. Both of these songs add greatly to the collection. There are some no-brainers in the list of classics. For example, this CD had to include his multi-Dove winner "The Great Adventure" as well as his wedding classic "I Will Be Here." I was especially glad to see "His Eyes," a personal favorite of mine that I've felt is under appreciated. The rest of the selections are just as good and deserve a place here. I was a little surprised at a couple of the songs that got left out, but I can't imagine what they would have replaced.Long time fans will love having this collection of what are truly his greatest songs. They'll especially love the notes where he discusses the inspiration behind these songs. Those unfamiliar with Mr. Chapman's work will find a good introduction to his career that should wet their appetite for more. All in all, a great CD."
Christian rock worth playing on mainstream radio.

"Mr. Chapman alternates between praising God and exploring the simple joy/reward of the Christian lifestyle in this toe tapping collection that ranges from ballads to harder edge rock. Being a Greatest Hits collection means there isn't a loser to be found, just an hour or so of good, finger snapping/head nodding music to be savored. Recommended."
