Synopsis

Album Description
"In the Om Zone resonates your DNA with the primordial sound of the cosmos." -- New York Yoga "Sure to appeal to fans of chant superstars like Deva Premal, Krishna Das, and Jai Uttal. In the Om Zone meets the needs of the growing audience who loves to chant as well as listen!" -- Leading Edge Review This release features a group softly chanting a continuous Om mantra combined with keyboards and other instrumentation--a powerful, user-friendly soundtrack to empower meditation and yoga. The entire album is tuned to the fundamental harmonic frequency of the cosmos. * According to the ancient Vedic spiritual traditions of India, Om is the eternal, primordial sound in which past, present, and future are included. Om is considered to be the basic sound of creation, from which our world came into existence. * Many people love to chant with others at the end of yoga class, but are uncomfortable chanting alone at home. In the Om Zone provides an instant "yoga class" of backup chanters, giving new meaning to spiritually oriented, good karma karaoke. * In the Om Zone supports listeners in using their voices to send healing frequencies to the body, mind, and spirit. * Soothing sustained voices chant Om in harmonic fifths, creating a continuously flowing soundscape perfect for yoga and meditation. Other highlights include the dynamic world grooves of the Hot Chakra Band, the universal "Om Nama Shivaya" mantra, and a transcendently chilled version of the Beatles' "Tomorrow Never Knows." * Many listeners experience an immediate and pleasurable "buzz." * Part I features six meditative tracks with voices and keyboards. * Part II adds world rhythmic grooves to the Om chant.

CD Reviews

A good soul tuner

"I am a big Halpern fan. This is the 8th cd I've bought of his and I even had some of his music playing at my wedding, (Sand Dance from Ancient Echoes.) I was very excited when this cd first came out especially since I noticed that this was all new music, (Mr Halpern has a somewhat annoying habit of putting many of the same tracks on his cd's such as Eventide, Pachalbel's Canon and 48 hours. When you play your cd's all day, everyday you want to hear something fresh, especially when you're paying for a new cd because you want to hear new music.) Anyway the first 17 tracks of this cd do not disappoint. They are wonderful and truly heart opening, absolutely stellar. My only complaint are the last two tracks, two versions of Om Naya Shivaya. Unfortunately I find these tracks irratating. The singer, Melissa Phillipe sounds fantastic on track 3, Om Zone-part 2. It's etheral and transporting. Her versions of Om Nama Shivaya however send me right to the eject button and searching for my Sheila Chandra cd for her version of Om Namaha Shiva. There is something weighing these songs down, maybe something that prohibits my ability to entrain with them. The rest of the cd is so airy that I think I come crashing down because these two particular tracks are very earthy.Whatever it is it is most likely just me. This cd is still excellent, timeless and puts one for the most part in a blissful state."

"If you want a cd of music that could be used to have instrumental instead of vocal cues in a yoga practice, this is perfect. If you wanted a cd of ambient sounds to play at work, maybe not. I do like some of the tracks very much, but on others the volume is so low that I at first thought they were blank tracks. This could also be useful for meditation practice, but I wouldn't just put it on to groove around the house."
Excellent Meditation Aid

"As an experienced meditator, I recommend this CD for both beginner and advanced meditation practice. Halpern's layer upon layer upon layer of deep reverberating "oooommmm" is very soothing and easy to respond to, whether you join in with your own voice or simply listen to the voices on the CD. This CD has become one of my favorites as of the second time I turned it on."
