Product DescriptionStillwell formed in the summer of 1997 in Homewood, a south suburb of Chicago, just after the four original members had graduated high school. Homewood was known for being one of those towns where a million local bands are formed that never release records, tour, or even play outside of the city. Over the years they recorded various 7"s, split 7"s(with Milwaukee's Forstella Ford and Houston's No Reply), CDEPs, and a split CD. Stillwell also embarked on various tours over the years including a 1999 east coast tour with The Wayouts(whose members currently play in Life at Sea and Littleman Complex), a 2000 southeast tour with Insidious(whose members currently play in Temper Temper, and a west coast tour in 2001 with Tale of Genji (whose members currently play in Hewhocorrupts and Sorns). For their west coast tour, they released a 4 song CDEP on Forge Again Records, entitled "The End Result." This short EP was seen as their first big step towards their current musical direction. In 2002, Stillwell recorded their first ever full length. "Don't Face a Problem...Burn It" was recorded by Mike Lust (Sweep the Leg Johnny, Ten Grand) and is the most accurate portrayal of Stillwell's math rock / post hardcore blend to date. It was co-released in September 2002 by Forge Again Records and Hewhocorrupts, Inc. "With Don't Face a Problem... Burn It, Stillwell has created an album akin to Muselix. Equal parts math-rock, post-hardcore, post-rock, and some emo sentiment complete with high-pitched screaming. It is a post-genre cereal with style. This ground has been covered by forbearers of the aforementioned categorizations, but Stillwell is good at what they do. The guitar work is catchy and stylized, the music is tight, the drums booming, and the changes erratic. The vocals deliver some anger colored with common sense observations. Fans who dig the likes of June of 44, Drive Like Jehu, and Don Caballero, will be happy to discover Stillwell. It is a solid rock affair. Maybe not entirely new, but certainly not tired. Face this problem and rock it... LOUD." - Noreasterzine.com
