"Nice compilation, 3½ stars. 4 stars if you don't already own much of Sting's discography. 4 ½ stars for NEED YOUR LOVE SO BAD, because you may have a hard time finding PARTY PARTY's soundtrack on CD.
( I found it...shortly after buying this compilation )
Based on this compilation's theme, the overall interest is somewhat diluted because many songs have been used in their original form in the movies to which they are related, as they are here too: tracks 1,2,4,7,9,10,16 and 17. Great songs, but those have nearly nothing to do with Sting's TRUE contributions to movies soundtracks up until 1997 ( year of release of this compilation, yes, before KATE AND LEOPOLD and THE EMPEROR'S NEW GROOVE )
At least some of STING's vocal and/or musical contributions to movie world are here, like NEED YOU LOVE SO BAD, SOMEONE TO WATCH OVER ME, DEMOLITION MAN, ANGEL EYES and MY ONE AND ONLY LOVE.
I would have gave this compilation 6 stars if SHAPE OF MY HEART had been preceded by Dominic Miller's guitar solo intro, as it can be heard in THE PROFESSIONAL's epilogue. No luck !
I'm afraid ( and glad ) that Sting's successful and prolific relationship with movie makers is a neverending story. In that respect, a 1997 compilation already seems outdated.
An updated «kind-of-At-the-movies...VOLUME 1!» compilation with only TRUE Sting's movie collaborations would be great.
I wouldn't mind to wait until May 2005, after the release of the movie ASHURA.
Message to Gozar ( readers, see his/her review elsewhere ):
All the info you're looking for is provided in the booklet.
But anyway, here are the answers that should ease your pain :
Track 1 : used in THE LAST AMERICAN VIRGIN ( 1982 )
"I have all the Sting albums and a video or two. This is my favorite collection, though, and truly worth the big bucks. Bring on Sting's smooth jazz, smoky voice, the ballads, the Latin harmonies and rhythms. He makes me swoon. And that's beside the fact that he's a fine-looking specimen!I'm eager to get the NEXT movie soundtrack collection, with the singles from Kate & Leopold, The Emperor's New Groove, that Brosnan-Russo movie, etc. Hurry, Sting! Your fans await, with fists full of dollars. The collection is a bargain, and we don't have to wade through all the soundtrack stuff we DON'T want, to get to what we DO want."
Enjoy!

"A melange of great Sting tunes from the movies. Sticker-shock? Maybe, however -- a diehard Sting fan (myself included) would be spend much more time and money locating the soundtracks to these great tunes. "Moonlight" is my personal favorite, a mighty romantic one from the 1990s "Sabrina". "Angel Eyes" is another strong track, from "Leaving Las Vegas." Not a disappointing track on this CD. Recommended, definitely!"
Cool, Jazzy, and Worth the money

"This CD is a little more expensive than others, but so worth it. The music is a great mix of jazz, blues, and romantic sounds. I found it easy to "get lost" in listening to it. The only thing that could have made it more perfect would have been the addition of "Until" (from the Kate & Leopold soundtrack), but it's great listening just as it is.Songs like "Someone to Watch Over Me" and "Moonlight" make this CD a great Valentine's Day or Anniversary gift, too.I highly recommend this one."
Which Tracks to Which Movies???

"Can anyone help me figure out which tracks are from which movies? I've read through some of the reviews posted and found that 'Angel Eyes' and 'My One and Only Love' is from 'Leaving Las Vegas'; that 'Moonlight' is from the 1990's version of 'Sabrina'; and I think that 'All for Love' is from the 'Three Musketeers' or a similar movie... but I can't figure out where the others were featured in movies. Can anyone help me? I love listening to this CD but almost give myself a headache trying to figure out the movie."
