CD ReviewsMAD MONKEY-BUSINESS SKA rrose173 | New Rochelle, New York United States | 02/20/2002 (5 out of 5 stars) "THIS FLORIDA TRADITIONAL SKA BAND KEEPS YA MOVIN WITH HI-ENERY RIDDIMS, FANTASTIC VOCALS AND FIRST-RATE SONG-WRITING ABILITIES! THE INTERPLAY OF DRUMS & BASS IS SOME OF THE BEST I'VE HEARD. HIGHLY RECCOMENDED BY A SKA & REGGAE GUITARIST." Top tier trad ska phaye@sub-zero.mit.edu | Cambridge, MA USA | 12/02/2000 (4 out of 5 stars) "The Strangeways display not only insanely impressive technical talent (the bass lines on the whole album are *astounding*) but also unparaleled vocal harmonies. They could do all of their songs a capella and they would still be wonderful. The interplay between the various vocalists on each track makes each entire song constantly exciting. Sure there are plenty of better funk and punk bands, but that's not what the Strangeways are. I'd put them (and this album) in the top tier of modern traditional ska, only a slight notch below Hepcat and the Slackers!" Corporate Monkey Jumps! Andrew Elwell | 01/20/2005 (5 out of 5 stars) "Can't stand the Corporate Monkey? , YOU'RE FIRED! This joint features the fresh horn of Will Haines, an old school reggae and ska trumpeteer and paramedic, and the incomporable stylings of the one and only Googie Rankin, (Toasters & other small appliances). Tony skanks like he's finally in the Gulf to ride that bi-annual 10 footer. May be the the last chance to catch Bruce on T-Bone with these guys. If you EVER get an opportunity to see these guys live , (okay, you won't, outside of Sarasota,FL)
I can't say enough about this band, if you like ska... if you like reggae... if like you horns and hi-hats,with a driving bassline, Corporate Monkey will be in your head. Thier rendition of Miles Davis's "All Blues" raises the dead to the dance floor. Check out the website if you can't see them live." |
