CD Reviews

THIS IS NOT RUSH
Matthieu P. Raillard | Portland, OR USA | 06/04/2001
(3 out of 5 stars)

"Just a word of warning, this is not an album by the Canadian band Rush, as I was led to believe. I guess the people listed who also bought other Rush albums were duped the same way. The CD isn't bad, but it's not Lifeson, Lee and Peart!"
Setting the Record Straight
Justin Gaines | Northern Virginia | 05/09/2006
(4 out of 5 stars)

"First, let's get a few things cleared up. This is NOT an album by Canadian prog masters Rush. To be honest I don't see anything on this page that would lead anyone to believe that it was.

Also, Eric Clapton has nothing to do with this album. I don't know what that reviewer was thinking.

And despite the erroneous track listing, this CD actually IS the 1975 debut album Rush by the British hard rock band Strife. Not only that, but it is a digitally remastered version of the album, released in 2001 by Zoom Club Records.

Beyond the generic "classic rock" label, Strife is a hard band to classify. They were a hard rocking band with elements of Deep Purple and Uriah Heep, and had a few Kansas-esque progressive elements as well (see the 12-minute title track). Some of the band went on to form NWOBHM act Nightwing.

It may be hard to classify, but Rush is a good hard rock album that is worth tracking down, especially now that it has been remastered.

The real track listing is as follows:

1. Back Streets of Heaven

2. Man of the Wilderness

3. Magic of the Dawn

4. Indian Dream

5. Life Is Easy

6. Better Man Than I

7. Rush

Pre-Nightwing
M. Frobom | Wisconsin | 12/28/2006
(4 out of 5 stars)

"This is the band Gordon Rowley was in before Nightwing. Although I enjoy Nightwing, they could be very cheesy indeed. Strife was a prog oriented hardrock project; and when they decided to have fun it was a little bit of Hawkwind or Sweet that they tossed in the mix, rather than pomp cheese. Actually if you wonder what the Pink Fairies might have sounded like had they stayed together through the 70's; this band might give you an idea. Second album "Back to Thunder" is even heavier."
