A Nice Disc of Late-Romanticist/Early-Modernist Music.

"Another winner from CPO, this disc of Toch's string quartets is really very good. Toch was a Jew who managed to escape Germany in the early 1930s. Aesthetically he fell under the Nazi propaganda plank of "Entartete" or degenerate--as did any Modernistic artist, Jewish or not. Anyway, he got out as did Schoenberg, Korngold, Krenek, et al., and lived in Los Angeles.
These two quartets (Db & C) are wonderfully original pieces of that most exquisite of genres. Can't go wrong with this disc."
