"The Lachner family of musicians are virtually unheard of today, even by those familiar with the usual classical repertoire. This is unfortunate, for their music provides a variety of pleasures. The three brothers -- Franz, Ignaz, and Vinzenz, composed music that bridged the classical to romantic period. This particular series features the quartets of Ignaz. His chamber pieces echo at one moment the bright simplicity of a Haydn quartet, at another the emotional complexity of Schubert. Don't infer that the music is patchwork, however; the structure is coherent; the end result pleasing.I have listened to all three of the disks in this series extensively now. This last one is for me the most enjoyable, but I would part with none of them.It is a sad fact that such releases seldom stay long in the catalog, regardless of their quality. For this reason, and given the repeated pleasure it will provide you, I would consider this disk (and all the others in this series) essential to any well-rounded collection."
