"Vaclav Pichl (1741-1805),a Bohemian contemporary of Haydn and Mozart, was active in Italy and at the Vienna court and his music reflects the finest lyrical tradition of the high classical period. These string trios are full bodied in instrumental texture and quite as sophisticated as Mozart's divertimenti. Here expressively performed by Ensemble Agora, three German artists who've recorded quite a lot of unknown Classical chamber music, this is nuanced music along the lines of Pleyel, Von Dittersdorf, Boccherini. Wonderful, cheerful music to accompany reading or quiet hobbying. And very soft for late at night. Sene DG offers an excellent CD anthology series, and the Ensemble Agora also has an excellent CD of Trios by J. Reichardt, a colleague of Pichl."
