Product DescriptionAs members of San Franciscos celebrated Halou, Ryan and Rebecca Coseboom built up a remarkable body of material and worked with a wide range of iconoclastic artists including DJ Shadow (on his infamous Radiohead remix), Low, Cocteau Twins guitarist Robin Guthrie, and the Velvet Underground s John Cale. When Halou came to an end in 2008 during a US tour with indie legend Bob Mould, they regrouped quickly and relaunched as Stripmall Architecture.
Stripmall Architecture picks up right where Halou left off. The music achieves an almost opiate effect, combining layers of gauzy guitars - both warm and fuzzy and often quite loud and confrontational - with intricate electronics and Rebeccas fragile vocals. Theres also a sort of dizziness to the recordings due mainly to the warbly basslines and analog textures the band cleverly layers, creating a complex sound that cant be fully taken in without repeat listens. Their varied, eclectic material falls somewhere within the vast universes of noisy indie rock and early-90s shoegaze and should appeal to followers of both.
