CD ReviewsSomewhat Mighty Stuff Andre S. Grindle | Brewer Maine | 10/11/2009 (3 out of 5 stars) "It's always tempting to pin down Stuff as something of a poor mans Crusaders. Honestly a more appropriate comparasin would be something of a slicked late 70's version of the MG's. The main reason for that is,despite the quality of the musicians involved their main ambition is precision. At the same time their looking to be funky too. Somehow and for some reason.....the results overall just end up a little boring. Everything is just too subdued to really let the groove fly free. Another issue is too smoothed out cover songs. By no means would I object to anyone doing Stevie Wonder's terrific "Love Having You Around" but, much as with Ramsey Lewis's cover of "Living For The City" somehow the life manages to get drained a bit out of this one. This was recorded at the tail end of the disco era and the arrangement of that song reflects that too. Ditto for the version of "Dance With Me". The country-funk flavor of "Always" is really nice and is one of the songs on this album that works very well. The closer "Do It Again" actually replicates that flavor. One of the main reason this drops below the quality of their previous two albums is that there is just......the music tends to peter out before it really catches fire. In short if your looking for easy grooves to dance to for the sake of it that's played well, this might fit the bill. But if your looking for something more dynamic as casual listening this might just be a little bland for the occasion." Cool Stuff Daniel Olson | Molndal, Sweden | 04/28/2008 (4 out of 5 stars) "If you're looking for some cool stuff, easy-listening music then this record Stuff It with Stuff is definietly something well worth checkin'up! It's a quite slick record/music with some really great musicians.
The record it's a mix of gospel/jazz/funk/r&b, so if you into that this record's for you!" |
