CD ReviewsFor Hardcore Stylistics Fans Only... David Wayne | Santee, CA United States | 04/30/2001 (4 out of 5 stars) "In 1975, The Stylistics had one of their hits songs, "Can't Give You Anything (But My Love)," become a #1 hit in the UK. While their chart fortunes in the US were about to take a temporary lull (most of these songs only made the lower reaches of the US R&B chart), things were just heating up across the pond. Several of the group's albums and singles were big hits over there, and one of their greatest hits compilations also made it to #1 on the British album chart. The one song included here from the group's Philly Soul days ("You'll Never Get To Heaven"), will be familiar to most American listeners, and "Sing, Baby, Sing" is a favorite of fans of Carolina Beach music. The other tracks are examples of the kind of disco/pop releases, that made The Stylistics a major force on the NME charts in Britain. Ironically, the hit that started it all for the group in that country, "Can't Give You Anything," was NOT included on this album! If you want that song, it's available on "Greatest Love Hits." I recommend this album only to hardcore, dyed-in-the-wool Stylistics fans. It contains the most slickly-produced of their chart hits, if not the most soulful." Waste of talent Dude | Mid-Country | 03/30/2006 (1 out of 5 stars) "After having purchased the first greatest hits and loved it, I thought that I would buy Vol. 2. BIG MISTAKE. Vol. 1 had all of the Stylistics big hits which covered their first three albums, and also had differant producers than most of the songs on Vol. 2. I feel like I got duped into buying Vol. 2 because of one song, "You'll Never Get To Heaven" which coincidentally was off of one of their first three albums. The rest of the songs on Vol. 2 are musically soulless, lifeless, and heartless." Stylistics have STYLE! Michael L. Buie | Garner, NC United States | 08/26/2003 (5 out of 5 stars) "Truly a GREAT arrangement of a WONDERFUL group. Silky falsetto leads, tight harmonies and timeless renditions of tender love songs are the order of the day for this "Best Of" release!"
