CD Reviews

A great soundtrack!
David Jenkins | 10/11/1999
(4 out of 5 stars)

"This is a great soundtrack overall, with Glenn Miller playing all the great tunes from his movies written by the much neglected songwriters, Harry Warren and Mack Gordon. This CD is not a "complete" representation of the soundtracks, however. There were several out-takes from both movies, and they don't appear on this soundtrack CD. Two of the cuts written by Warren and Gordon were "You Say The Sweetest Things (Baby)" as played by the Glenn Miller Six (a small group taken from the band, much like what Benny Goodman did) and Marion Hutton's singing of "That's Sabotage." Many instrumentals written by the likes of Jerry Gray, Billy May (credited as Arletta May), and even Glenn Miller were also pre-recorded for the movies but cut from the final prints and are not on this CD: "Moonlight Sonata," "Boom Shot" "The Spirit Is Willing," and "Measure For Measure." These cuts were, however, issued on two LP's put out by 20th Century-Fox Record Corp (TCF-100-2)."
A great Big Band album!
David Jenkins | 09/28/1999
(5 out of 5 stars)

"The soundtrack to Sun Valley Serenade and Orchestra Wives does justice to two great movies. All of the great songs are included. This album contains one of the best recordings I've heard of Chattanooga Choo Choo. If you love Big Band music, this CD is a must for your collection."
Lots of fun 40's swing music!
David Jenkins | 08/21/1998
(5 out of 5 stars)

"To sum it up in one word: WOW! This CD is full of great swing hits by artists such as Glenn Miller. If you love the song "In The Mood," you'll love this soundtrack! It's a great variety of 40's music, from slow melodic tunes to the more peppy swing stuff. The music captures the true diversity of the movie, which is also great! This soundtrack is perfect for any swing-dancing enthusiast with a variety that's sure to complement any mood."
