"Wow! Can we have more albums like this? Supersax can give the "Four Brothers" a run for their money. Med Flory deserves a standing ovation for his faithful transcriptions of Charlie Parker's much envied solos. Take a bow, Med!I first heard the Supersax group on vinyl on the album, "Supersax and L.A. Voices," many years ago. It was a superb album and I've been waiting forever for that album to re-issued on CD. "Supersax Plays Bird" fulfills half of my yearning for re-issues of this group's other earlier recordings with the L.A. Voices. Don't let me wait any longer, please."

Pure Fun

"I'm struggling to explain why this earliest Supersax recording seems so much better than the later releases on MPS and CBS (and those aren't bad). Is it because of Conte Candoli's brilliant trumpet solos (the best I've ever heard him), the mixing that gives all instruments great presence or ...? Whatever the reason, it's awesome -- pure bebop and pure fun to listen to."

Frankie Rosolino was the best!

"This album is a labour of love for Bird. It is a labour of love by Supersax that recorded it in 1991 and by me that I bought it a couple of weeks ago for a serious price in the used market. I already knew the greatness of Supersax and what they were all about (I already had the Japanese concerts, Dynamite!, Salt Peanuts and Stone Bird in my collection). Supersax was a band born after Jay Migliori and Ted Flory's idea. They had this brilliant idea to record Bird's unequalled mesmerizing solos as classical compositions with horn section, plus guests (the special Conte Candoli among the others here) & rhythmn section. It was a brilliant idea because Bird's solos are so out of this world instant compositions that sooner or later someone had to put them in the right perspective. They are no less artistic achievements than any work from Mozart or Bach. I'M NOT JOKING, (I'm ready to open a forum on this). In particular in this album (the first from Supersax) you'll find some of Bird's best and most known solos from his best era: the fabolous KoKo, the essential Just friends solo from the "Parker with strings" session, the incredible Parker's Mood and so on. The album is no long unfortunatly: only 37 minutes, but 37 minutes of pure joy they are!!! Supersax was a tremendous unit. They played and recorded this material at the highest level possible, with all the love in the world. I can't express how much I'm happy now that I finally own this wonderful album (thanks Anne!). I hope that sooner or later people at Capitol (and MPS for what concerned the Dynamite! and "With strings" albums) will decide to print again (for the first time) all the Supersax catalogue on cd. They are all wonderful gems that we, Bird aficionados, are waiting with money in our hands to buy. Supersax really did justice to Bird tremendous and immortal music in the "hi fi" era. Thank you Supersax!!!!!!!!!!!"
