Album DescriptionDigitally remastered reissue of the West Coast band's acclaimed 1968 debut album Sweetwater were an unusual eight piece aggregation whose budding career was cruelly cut short by tragedy. Formed out of coffee house jams in LA under the benign eye of Roger McGuinn's sometime cowriter Harvey Gerst, Sweetwater played a fresh and happening fusion of Psychedelia, Jazz and Classical music. Their first album, produced by the great Dave Hassinger, established them as a force to be reckoned with, and landed them tours with The Doors and Eric Burdon and The Animals, and in time the coveted opening slot on the Woodstock festival (though they ended up going on later thanks to backstage shenanigans). In December 1969 it all came skidding to a halt, as 20 year old singer Nansi Nevins was involved in a serious car smash, which left her in a coma with severe brain trauma and damaged vocal cords, necessitating years of therapy. 11 tracks. Rev-Ola. 2009.
