CD Reviews

On the THIRD greatest hits CD......
06/22/2003
(3 out of 5 stars)

"Overall, this is a good CD for new and future fans and a good collector's item for die-hard SWV fans like myself. However, the typos and misinformation on this album show how rushed it was. The best reason to get this CD are the three unreleased tracks "Surprise Me", "Mystery", and "Where is the Love (full version)". If you haven't heard them already, these songs will make you mad that SWV broke up in the first place. Also the liner notes give a good brief description of the impact their music has given the industry and even acknowledge the SWV reunion for those who didn't know. But then there are the flaws. First, they list Can We on the case yet Fine Time is on the CD (which is wrongly credited from the Release Some Tension album. Second, none of the hits of Release Some Tension made the cut like Rain, Someone, or Lose Your Cool. The new tracks don't completely make up for this since Surprise Me and Mystery were released on the first GH album. They should have at least included Rain and released the original version of Slow Jams from Q's Jook Joint (yes they sung Tamia's part before Quincy Jones redid it). So like I said, it's a good collector's item and full version of Where is the Love is da cut but get one of the first two greatest hits first if you can."
