Otto Klemperer rerecorded these symphonies (and Eine kleine Nachtmusik) in stereo, but many music lovers have fond memories of these marvelous mono recordings, which have been superbly transferred to CD. All of the patented Klemperer virtues are here: solid rhythms, steady tempos, a forward balance for the all-important wind parts, along with a slightly livelier overall approach than in the stereo remakes. Magnificent, Bold Monophonic Versions from 1950s

"These performances are earlier than the stereo versions done by Klemperer in the sixties. Here, in the mid-fifties, he uses faster tempi, stronger inflection, and yet maintains his usual careful treatment of details. The winds of the Philharmonia are a delight. Sound is clean and clear, with a little less bass than one might want (which may be easily corrected); there is some very slight tape hiss, but NO distortion or other artifacts in these authentic mono transfers, which sound MUCH better than their original LP issues. The "Jupiter" is an exceptionally strong, fine performance."
