CD ReviewsWonderfully vivid & powerful performance! Scriabinmahler | UK | 01/13/2009 (5 out of 5 stars) "This is a wonderfully detailed and vivid performance of the 7th, conducted by Svetlanov, played by Russian State SO, and recorded (DDD)beautifully in 1992.
As usual, Svetlanov creates amazing orchestral texture, colours and magical moments in each movement by allowing every instrument to sing and to express its part to the full extent, with much emphasis on brass and the overwhelming climax. I like the gritty, earthy quality, uniquely Russian, which works wonder with Mahler's music - What a contrast to Gergirev's calculated and artificial LSO live! I wish Svetlanov's complete Mahler cycle will be back in the catalogue very soon." |
