"Carlo Maria Giulini, while not as famous as some "star" conductors, was one of the truly great conductors of the 20th century. Giulini had a genius -- shared by few other conductors -- for revealing all of the details and nuances of a symphony or other composition while presenting it as a coherent whole. And Giulini was particularly outstanding as a conductor of Dvorak. This 2-CD set presents not only Dvorak's justly-famous Symphony No. 9, "From the New World," but also his less well known, but equally great, Symphony No. 7 -- which could well be subtitled Autumnal. The performances of these symphonies by Giulini and the great Concertgebouw Orchestra of Amsterdam are truly monumental. I have never heard finer performances of these two great symphonies. Highly recommended."
